Question: Is outer space noisy?

( Back )

Answer #1:

No sound at all

Answer #2:

No air, no sound waves.

Answer #3:

Well, yes and no. People commonly say that sound can't travel through space, which would be true if space was completely empty. Space isn't empty though, it's just almost empty, a few atoms per cubic centimeter. So sound does indeed propagate through space, it's filled with noisy things. However due to the low density of the media it travels very slowly and requires incredibly sensitive instruments to detect.

Answer #4:

No. Space is a vacuum, with no air. Which means there are no particles to transfer the sound waves.
Space does have sound, it just never reaches our ears.
