Outer space and the ocean aren't floating, rather it's the objects within each that float. And they're different kinds of floating. In space, you float indefinitely in any direction until gravity does its thing and pulls you wherever. In the ocean, as long as your density is less than that of water, you'll float. At least until the sharks come.
