Question #5:

Help me find this weird show?

I can't find the show I am thinking of. I saw it a few years ago. There seemed to be two different time lines happening at once, one where a teenage girl (who gives a voice over to the proceedings) is hit by a small piece of space junk falling from outer space and dies, and another one where either that hasn't happened yet or she didn't get hit. It seemed to achieve a deep amount of gravitas, but there was a bit of dirty humor going on as well which sort of undermined that aspect. In the first time line it's about the narrators little sister going through her stuff and sort of becoming obsessed with her dead sibling.

The other time line where the narrator is still alive, she is trying to win a bowling tournament. It keeps cutting back to the scene where the space junk falls slowly from the sky while the girl watches, and I remember she asks, "Why did I just stand there, like one of those bowling pins waiting to be knocked down?" She wins the tournament in the end and it was kind of touching.

So anyway, if you what in the world this was that I saw, please tell. It was not animated or anything like that, it was real people.

Question #8:

Any Australians know what this recent song is called?

I've asked this over five times in the music section and no one knew it. So now I'm guessing the song is sung by an Australian band (Americans rarely release our songs) and it might be known only to Australians. It was shown on Max on Foxtel.

It's a 2010 song (quite recent). The song is set in space and it opens with the lead singer playing piano and then he plays his guitar with his band. The clip show stars, the moon and outer SPACE with the band doing their thing (playing instruments and all). I actually forgot the lyrics. It is sung by a band. The singers look punk-ish and are young

The song is electro-rock and it's quite melodic. Any ideas?
@A,

OMG, you ARE A STAR!!!

Yes, it is!!! Wow!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I've asked over ten times in here and NO ONE KNEW! You are SPECIAL! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Question #9:

Should Moronic Design Theory be taught alongside the Theory of Evolution in science class?

Moronic Design is the theory that this planet and the life on it arose at some indeterminate past time through the actions of a creator, the exact nature of which is not known other than the fact that he, she, or it was a moron.

There is copious evidence for this position:

1. The human eye has a blind spot -- and you can't see it.

2. The continents keep moving around and running into each other, causing earthquakes, volcanoes, and other potentially fatal inconveniences.

3. African locusts have the nerves necessary to run their wings located in their abdomens, which is like having the switch for your bedside lamp in the kitchen.

4. We don't want to get into the details of the human male prostate gland and urethra, but believe us, they're problematic.

5. Pandas have five fingers and a thumb that's all bony, making some natural thumb activities (e.g., hitchhiking) impossible.

6. The human appendix is of dubious necessity and sometimes explodes.

7. Compared with those of many other primates, human toes aren't good for much other than nail painting.

8. You can't go faster than the speed of light, making interstellar travel inconvenient at best.

9. Many animals don't mind drinking the same water they go to the bathroom in (ew!)

10. Viruses are so weird that we can't even decide if they're alive or not and they serve no useful purpose, unless you consider killing, causing discomfort, or making an evil cosmological power laugh at meaningless suffering a useful purpose.

11. Quantum physics, which just makes no sense at all.

12. Insects are sometimes born with legs instead of antennae, snakes sometimes have an extra head, and there are conjoined twins all over the place.

13. Humans grow wisdom teeth, but often don't have anywhere in their mouth to put them.

14. Pluto isn't quite a planet and isn't quite a rock, and has a seriously weird orbit.

15. A flounder's eyes won't stay put.

16. Leeches sometimes swell up so much with blood that they pop.

17. The bombardier beetle -- what intelligent being would give weapons like that to a bug?

18. Some insect species have males that don't live after losing their virginity.

19. Honey bees often die after stinging an enemy.

20. Cows, whales, and many other animals without toes have toe bones.

21. Animals that live in the water but can't breathe water.

22. The human "funny bone," which isn't really funny at all.

23. Kiwis have wings that aren't good for anything, not even eating.

24. Nipples for men.

25. Stuff in outer space keeps running into each other.

26. There is a type of lizard called the cnemdophorus, and every single one of them is female.

27. With alarming consistency, the most intelligent creatures in existence throw out the evidence of their senses and intellect in favor of beliefs that are hundreds or even thousands of years out of date.

Question #11:

At what speed would a gram of uranium have to be moving to match it's fission explosive power?

Take a gram of (highly enriched, weapons grade) uranium. If it is caused to explode in a fission reaction, it will yield X amount of energy.

At what speed would an identical gram of uranium have to be traveling such that it's kinetic energy equaled X. Or, perhaps, that at impact it's kinetic energy equaled X.

Traveling in outer space, of course. This question occurred to me while watching a show on asteroid impacts. [No, I am not in school and lazy. I just don't know physics, but do know how to phrase a question.]

Question #17:

why is outer space pitch black but the sky is blue?

Question #18:

What is the maximum speed man could safely travel through outer space?

In order to cover interstellar distances in reasonable times, the velocity of a future spaceship would have to travel at a considerable fraction of the speed of light. As the velocity is increased ever nearer to the speed of light, the cosmic background radiation becomes ever more blue shifted towards lethal X-ray and gamma ray wavelengths, and aberration displaces stars ever closer together in the direction the spaceship is travelling. At 99% the speed of light these effects would presumably be within safe limits, but the time dilation factor is only about 7, not really sufficient for journeys across the galaxy. What would be a safe velocity which would maximise the time dilation factor?
